Historical BIG-IP DNS/GTM commands for adding a remote BIG-IP system.
Legacy / version-specific guidance
The bigip_add/gtm_add workflow is retained for older BIG-IP DNS/GTM estates. The original article itself warns that gtm_add can replace GSLB configuration, so use release-specific F5 guidance and a backup before running it.
Validation status
Reviewed during the Tech-Wiki Wave 3 migration on 27 September 2026. The historical procedure is retained for engineers supporting older estates, but is not presented as the default approach for a new deployment.
Potentially destructive GSLB operation
Confirm trust/synchronisation direction and back up the current BIG-IP DNS/GTM configuration before using gtm_add.
Historical procedure
In order to add a remote bigip as server, type the following commands:
(tmos)# bigip_add x.x.x.x
In order to add this bigip as member of GTM group, type the following commands:
(this will wipe out current GSLB configuration)
(tmos)# gtm_add x.x.x.x
Port 22/tcp is required for this operation
