Enable copy and paste between a virtual-machine guest operating system and the remote console by setting the VMware isolation options on that VM.
This changes a security control
The original article notes that copy and paste is disabled by default for security reasons. Enable it only where clipboard transfer between the console and guest is acceptable.
Configure the virtual machine
- Log in to vCenter using the vSphere Client.
- Power off the virtual machine.
- Select the VM and open its settings.
- Navigate to the advanced/general configuration parameters.
- Add the following values:
isolation.tools.copy.disable = false isolation.tools.paste.disable = false
- Save the configuration.
- Power on the virtual machine.

The original procedure notes that these advanced configuration parameters override settings made in the VMware Tools control panel inside the guest.
